Theatre Castings
UK Theatre School has its own Castings department that takes care of any students wishing to be put forward for work.
UK Castings concentrates on representing its members as their agent and we have also joined forces with United Casting Extras Ltd. This allows both companies to combine their efforts is finding work for our members.
United Castings initially concentrated in the ‘Extras' field and have been working hard since our recent merger finding Extra work for many of our Students in programmes like River City, Taggart, Still Game, Chewing’ the Fat, etc and many TV & Radio Adverts, Voiceover work and more recently lots Film work.
One of our young Students 14 year old Mark MacKenzie was awarded a part in River City. The River City Casting Directors have expressed their delight in the standard of the students emerging from UKTheatreSchool. Also, young Zoë Coutts was successful in gaining the main part in the latest KFC advert which has seen her face on TV screens around the UK and Europe.
Many of our students can also be frequently seen on Taggart, Rebus, Still Game, River City as well as other television programmes, TV adverts and other advertising campaigns; notably; Saturday Student, 13year old Scott Wallace from Airdrie, is currently the face of the Irn Bru Carnival Adverts.
Another rising talent is young Orlaith MacQueen came through many call back auditions and seen off hundreds of young girls for a part in the new feature film ‘The Daisy Chain’. Casting Director Victoria Beattie was searching for a young girl to play Lucy in the film (to be shot in Scotland very soon) and Orlaith shone out however; five other UKTheatreSchool girls also got through to the final eight for the part and Victoria Beattie was so delighted by the calibre of student that she recommended our theatre school to other talented young people who have been auditioning for her; who have since successfully joined the school.
The above are the more recent castings however; as mentioned you will have seen many of our students on top television programmes, theatre shows, adverts etc. Our students also have the chance to meet with the stars they, or their peers, work with as they come into UKTheatreSchool in Glasgow to chat with the students.
Following our recent theatre school trip to see The Kings Theatre Panto ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ Dawn Steele who played the wicked witch Carrion in the Panto (as well as appearing in many TV programmes like ‘Sea of Souls’, Monarch of the Glen, etc) came in and gave a talk and did a Q&A with all of our students ranging from 4 year olds to our 19 year olds. Dawn did part of her talk with her fellow actor Iain Robertson – talking about the times they worked together on Sea of Souls. Following her Panto stint, will star in the national tour of Blackbird, by David Harrower; starting in February 2008.
Also in the New Year, we are hoping to have another Q&A with Still Game star Gavin Mitchell (also known as ‘Boaby the bar man’) as well as our visit from Radio Clyde DJ Sharon Oakley (Showbiz Shaz) to introduce her Presenting for Radio Course within UKTheatreSchool. Showbiz Shaz will do her talk on Saturday 19th January 2008 at 9.30am. Anyone from S4-S6 at high school who may be interested in this hour-long course talk with Q&As should put their name down for placement as places are limited. You will be notified to confirm you have a place in the first session.
