UKTheatreSchool Adult Programme

Our Tutors are Industry Professionals
Unlike many acting schools whose tutors are full time teachers; our teaching staff are working professionals and as such are in touch with what is relevant in today's world of acting. The Adult Acting Programme
The Adult Acting Programme is a course designed for those who are starting off in acting, coming back to it after a break and / or cannot commit to a full time training program.

This Course in Acting is open to anyone over the age of eighteen who has some experience of acting or who shows a natural ability in performance. Although students are not expected to have a high level of experience, they are expected to have, as with most of our courses, a good work ethic and be dedicated.

The course provides a solid foundation in the skills of performance, enabling students to move on to further training, depending on individual progress.

There is no formal audition for adults however; there may be an open workshop to assess abilities and invitations to join the course will follow thereafter. It is important to ensure the grouping in each class is of a similar ability.

The classes and workshops currently run each Wednesday evening from 7.30pm and cost £50 for a ten week block. Currently our Adult Acting Tutor is Glasgow Actor Iain Robertson who brings over fifteen years acting experience to his students.

The Adult Singing Programme

Our Singing Tutors and Coaches will be demonstrating and instructing Adult Students to increase range, strengthen and balance tone aiming to give the singer full control of their vocal facility.  Students are instructed in vocal exercises to work vocal chords in to shape to allow the singer to hopefully deliver a great performance without straining your voice. If you’re a complete beginner and would like to try singing in the security of a group, and gain lots of confidence in the process, then come along to these entirely practical workshops, which will help you to learn and experience:

-
The basics of breathing technique and how the voice is produced
- Vocal training exercises each week
- How to prepare a song for performance
- How to perform a song
- Performance techniques for a variety of musical styles
- Microphone technique
- Learning to think about which styles of music suit your voice
- Learning new repertoire
- Building on personal and vocal confidence The lessons currently run each Wednesday evening from 6.30pm – 7.30pm and cost £50 for a ten week block.  Currently our Singing Tutor is our Head of Musical Theatre; Luis Garcia.

 The Adult Dance Programme

Our Adult Dance Classes are mostly Commercial Jazz style and primarily for the beginner. Classes include warm-up exercises, isolations, steps and choreography. This is an excellent course to increase fitness levels while enjoying popular dance styles.    The lessons currently run each Wednesday evening from 8.30pm – 9.30pm and cost £50 for a ten week block.  Currently our Dance Tutor is well known Choreographer; Paul McLavin – once you attend these classes; we promise - you will find the energy of Paul McLavin addictive!

How do I apply?

In the first instance please contact us by either email or telephone (0141 332 5192) or simply call in when you are next passing and request a Prospectus and Information Pack for our Adult Programmes.  On receiving this, please complete the attached form outlining your course preferences.  This form can be posted along with a cheque or postal orders for the course(s) you are interested in or you can call us and make payment over the phone – we take all major credit and debit cards. This will hold a place for you.  You will then be invited to a taster session(s) which is/are £5 each and you will be assessed during this/these.  You will be notified in writing, within three days, if you have been successful in gaining placement on the forthcoming ten week course.  Those unsuccessful in gaining placement would receive a full refund of fees paid towards the ten week block(s).

I Would Like to Attend All Three Courses

Adults hoping to attend all three of the classes on the same evening can do so.  A block of ten for a three course programme runs at the reduced fee of £125.00.  The placement requirements would remain the same as above however; all three taster sessions would cost £12.50.

What are the Main Aims of These Courses?

These courses were specially designed for the Adult hoping to gain the basics in either one or all three of the courses as well as being an ideal way to socialise creatively.  Those choosing to do all three courses will have built on the three main disciplines of performing arts.  Those excelling in these courses will be advised on possible progression into the arts if they so wish.  Adults wishing to progress onto full-time performing arts education or move onto more in-depth performing arts part-time courses will also be able to attend our Audition Preparation Courses from April 2008 which will prepare them for entry onto their chosen course.

Those Adults happy to continue from one term onto the next within their classes can do so.  They merely have to complete their application and await their invitation.  Applications for a new term from existing Adult Students are required two weeks before the end of a term.  Notification that you have been successful in continuing your placement will be posted to you within three days f us receiving your request.  Existing Students are not required to complete another assessment or taster session.
